Smokin Black Gold is a black 6 year old AQHA mare. We have owned her since she was about 2 weeks old. She was started right with round pen training and then trail rode during her long 2 year old year. She even went on a Maine Trail Riders ride at Popham Beach as a late 2 year old. I trail rode and team penned her as a 3 year old. Then when she turned 4 I sent her to Tennessee for reining training. I started Smokey on the Barrel Racing circuit as a 5 year old and won the Green Barrel class for 2001. She also placed 3rd in the Open barrel class that year. This year she was not eligible for the Green barrel class but was for the Green Pole bending. She won the championship in that class for 2002. Smokey is also the champion open barrel horse for 2002. She ended the year with 80 points in the Maine Barrel class with the next contender only having 56 points. Smokey has also been shown on the Maine Quarter Horse circuit and has acheived her ROM in Barrels and Poles through the AQHA.

Smokey is trained well enough for any disapline and would excel where ever you wanted to put her. She is very smooth gaited and can be ridden by anyone. Smokey is alpha on the ground to both other animals and humans and should be brought back to the round pen for a refresher.

Smokey was bred to an APHA bay overo stallion in 2001 and had a solid black colt this spring. I believe her black genes will carry through no matter what she is bred to. She was an excellent mom to her baby and was great with people being in the stall or pen with them. She loved being ridden and ponying the baby right from the time he was about a month old. I would take them both to the horse shows and tie the colt to the horse trailer while Smokey had a class.

Smokey can read a cow better than her rider and would excel at Team Penning.

She will Trail Ride through anything.
